The march to All-State Band continued this month as 39 band students from LISD represented the VMT music department and earned the honor to compete at this year’s All-Region Band Auditions. All 39 students earned a placement in the TMEA All-Region Band and participated in this year’s All-Region Band Concert and Clinic. VMT also had a record number 22 students qualify to compete at the next level of auditions at the All-Area Band level in January.

Congratulations to Ezequiel Hernandez, one of VMT’s talented art students, for winning the LISD Annual Christmas Card Competition! Guided by Mrs. Berrios, Ezequiel also contributed his creative background artwork for the theater production of A Charlie Brown Christmas. We are so proud of your achievements, Ezequiel.

VMT music students proudly honored our Nation's heroes during our Annual Veterans Day Celebration! Through chamber ensemble performances and moving patriotic music, they paid tribute to the sacrifices made by U.S. veterans while educating our students about the true meaning of service and dedication.

Our 31st Annual VMT Hispanic Festival was a tremendous success, bringing together the beauty of our Hispanic heritage and culture! This cherished VMT tradition would not have been possible without the support and dedication of our amazing parents, students, administrators, teachers, staff, and community. Thank you for helping us create such an unforgettable event filled with dancing, music, food, and laughter.

Congratulations to Adrian Zamora for placing 5th in the TMEA All-Area Orchestra! Adrian competed against top students from across Texas and proudly stood out as the only student from Laredo to advance. Thank you, Adrian for representing Laredo through your hard work and dedication!

Talented art, music, and photography students of VMT participated in the 2nd Annual LISD Art Exhibit!

Last week, our talented dance students, under the guidance of Ms. Leyendecker, took the stage for their 20th annual Halloween dance performance, "American Horror Stories". The show was a captivating blend of contemporary, hip hop, jazz, creative movement, and lyrical dance styles, bringing to life iconic movie themes from Bird Box, Edward Scissorhands, and The Purge, along with a lively performance of the Halloween hit song, “Monster Mash”! The grand finale had everyone moving to the ultimate Halloween classic song, Michael Jackson’s "Thriller"!

"Eye see you!” Mrs. Berrios’s talented students just unveiled an incredible installation featuring their acrylic-painted eyeballs. Each piece is bursting with color and creativity, stare if you dare! Also featured in the gallery are stunning ballpoint pen artworks, showcasing the amazing range of talent our students have to offer!

Our dedicated VMT CTE teachers took part in the CTE Expo hosted by the Laredo Independent School District’s College, Career, and Military Readiness Department at the LISD Performing Arts Complex. They welcomed 5th graders from across the district, offering hands-on career exploration activities and raising awareness about the diverse career paths LISD provides. Students discovered our 7 specialty schools and 29 programs of study, gaining valuable insight into their future opportunities!

Our VMT art students had an incredible, immersive experience at the Laredo Center for the Arts! They explored The Quest to Dream: A Rare Collection of the First Printed Don Quixote Illustrations Exhibit, featuring the first illustrations of Miguel Cervantes's timeless novel, Don Quixote de La Mancha.

During their visit, students participated in a printmaking workshop conducted by Mr. Jesse Shaw, TAMIU assistant professor and director of Visual Arts.

They also had the chance to view Transitions, an inspiring exhibit by Laredo native Miki Rodriguez.

Our VMT Concert Choir students, under the direction of Celia Hernandez, competed in the 2024 TMEA District Contest on Saturday, September 21, in Corpus Christi, TX. This year, 9 students accepted the challenge to compete, and for the first time in VMT Choir history, 100% of our singing musicians advanced to the next round!

The VMT Dance Department celebrated 16 de Septiembre with an incredible performance for their annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration! The event showcased the talents of the VMT Ballet Folklórico and VMT Dance Company, with beautiful music provided by VMT Mariachi Los Herraderos.

The VMT Magnet School held its 2nd Annual TMEA Music Camp, providing master classes for over 200 music students from both LISD and UISD. This camp aimed to support students in preparing for the challenging TMEA All-State audition process. Music students from grades 8 through 12 had the unique opportunity to work with music specialists from Texas A&M International University, Hebbronville High School, Nixon High School, Alexander High School, Lamar Middle School, and the VMT Magnet School.

The VMT Drama Department presented the short play "He Loves Me..." which was directed and designed by VMT Drama Student Lorne Vall-Sandel. This play was the second in the series of short plays that are directed and designed by VMT students.

The Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts proudly held its annual Patriot Day Ceremony to honor the brave first responders and heroes of September 11th, 2001. This solemn occasion reminds us of the incredible courage and sacrifice shown by those who responded in the face of tragedy. The students’ performances paid tribute and expressed deep respect for the fallen and all who served.

A huge thank you to Mr. Carlos Botello for visiting our campus during the 1st Annual VMT Percussion Camp! Your expertise and passion for percussion truly inspired our students. We also extend our gratitude to all the directors and everyone else who helped make this event a success for our young musicians. We were excited to see such a great turnout from LISD students!

The VMT Drama Department is starting the 2024-2025 school year with a series of short plays directed, designed, and produced by VMT drama students. The first one, a short play called “Too Quiet,” was directed and designed by Christine Vasquez.

The VMT Theater Department has been invited to perform at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Director Ramos and VMT students treated us to a great display of “Chicken and a Roll,” creating some rhythmic beats. A great example of the talent we have here at VMT!

We kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with an inspiring meeting with both our administration and students. We discussed our high expectations for success, emphasized the importance of safety, and shared some exciting new projects we have planned for this year. Looking forward to an amazing year ahead!
