The LISD Athletic Office hosted the Triple A awards Ceremony at the LISD PA. The ceremony honored LISD middle and high school student-athletes. The students were recognized for having perfect attendance, straight A’s and a winning attitude. Each student was presented with either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medal for their academic achievements.

Students for LISD attended the meeting and were given an opportunity to see first-hand the different roles and responsibilities each elected and appointed county official has within the county. After the meeting the Commissioners Court held a Q&A with the students.

VMT students and Nixon High School students had the opportunity to attend the Webb County Commissioners Court meeting held this morning at Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts.

Students witnessed county government in action and learned more about the roles and responsibilities of elected and appointed county officials.

Congratulations to Madelyn Marchan for receiving a Gold Seal Medal for her artwork, If One Remembers to Turn on the Light, today at the 2026 Visual Arts Scholastic Event in San Marcos, Texas.

Today, history was made for Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts. The Gold Seal is the highest honor awarded in visual arts at the state level in Texas, recognizing exemplary student achievement and a standard of excellence through the Texas Art Education Association Visual Art Scholastic Event.

During the 2026 VASE season, 32,456 artworks were judged statewide, with 2,154 advancing to State VASE. Of those state-qualifying works, approximately 151 received the prestigious Gold Seal recognition.

Madelyn’s achievement places her among the top visual art students in the state. Congratulations to Madelyn and her teacher, Mrs. Clarissa Visarra, for continuing to Define the Standard through excellence in the visual arts.

Mrs. Joanne Valdez was selected as the School Bell Award Nominee for VMT. Mrs. Valdez promotes real-world experiences for her students by providing meaningful opportunities to engage with both the school and local community, including having them cover campus events and performances. Her students also participate in competitions such as Birds of the Brush, L.I.F.E., and the Congressional Art Competition. In addition, she played a key role in bringing VMT students to the Visual Art Scholastic Event for the first time and helped organize a collaboration with the Laredo Cultural District for our students’ first art show with Caminarte.
