Students and faculty at the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts (VMT) spent the week connecting with the foundational principles of American democracy as the campus hosted an engaging series of activities for Celebrate Freedom Week.

Designed to highlight the country's founding documents and democratic values, the week balance civic education with creative self-expression. VMT kicked off the event with a senior voter registration drive led by the campus Social Studies team, providing eligible upperclassmen with the opportunity to register for upcoming elections.

The celebration continued with "Express Yourself" T-Shirt Day, highlighting the First Amendment and giving students and staff a platform to showcase their personal interests. Throughout the week, Gladiators also participated in a Constitutional Trivia competition and gathered in the hallway to sign an oversized replica of the U.S. Constitution. The campus wrapped up the festivities with a presidential-themed photo booth session.

For educators on campus, seeing students connect directly with history and civic duty was the true highlight of the week.

"Celebrate Freedom Week is about making history tangible and helping our students understand that rights like freedom of expression and the right to vote are active, living responsibilities," said social studies teacher Mr. Gaynor. "Seeing our Gladiators step up to sign the Constitution, register to vote, and engage so thoughtfully with our nation's founding ideas proves that the future of civic leadership is in great hands."

By pairing fine arts expression with practical civic engagement, VMT reinforced its mission to empower knowledgeable, articulate, and active young citizens.
