The Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts (VMT) brought the rich traditions of Mexican culture to life with a dynamic 16 de Septiembre celebration in the school auditorium. The showcase highlighted the artistic heritage of the region while putting student skills to work both on stage and behind the scenes.
The VMT Auditorium echoed with music and color as the school's Ballet Folklórico dancers and Mariachi musicians delivered remarkable performances under the direction of Ms. Alicia McKinnis and Mr. Carlos Morales. Each piece honored traditional Mexican culture through intricate choreography, authentic costuming, and live instrumental arrangements.
"Watching our students take the stage with such discipline, passion, and pride in our heritage is truly what VMT is all about," said dance instructor Ms. Alicia McKinnis. "Our dancers and musicians put in countless hours of preparation, and seeing them bring the beauty of our culture to life for their peers makes all their hard work worthwhile."
While performers captivated the audience, Career and Technical Education (CTE) students worked behind the scenes to execute every technical aspect of the live production. Photography and Radio, Television, and Film (RTF) students operated cameras and documented the showcase, while Technical Theatre students managed stage lighting and audio engineering throughout the event.
The collaborative event reflected VMT's core mission: pairing artistic expression with hands-on, real-world industry experience.
School leadership extended gratitude to faculty, staff, and Interim Director Rebecca Gonzalez for orchestrating the collaborative showcase, noting that whether behind the lens, managing the soundboard, or performing under the lights, VMT students continue to work together with one unified goal in mind: student success.
