The vibrant rhythms, colorful costumes, and rich traditions of Mexico came alive on stage as the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts (VMT) proudly presented its highly anticipated production, Culturas 2026: “Nuestra Herencia” (Our Heritage).
The spectacular showcase served as a powerful celebration of culture, music, and dance, spotlighting the immense talent nurtured within Laredo's premier fine arts magnet school.
A Journey Through the Regions of Mexico
The audience was treated to a breathtaking cultural journey, masterfully executed by VMT’s premier performance groups. The stage ignited with energy as the VMT Ballet Folklórico, VMT Conjunto Jarocho, and Mariachi Los Herraderos took spectators on a regional tour of Mexico, showcasing the distinct musical and dance traditions of seven different states:
Veracruz & Tamaulipas: Capturing the intricate footwork and lively string melodies of the Gulf coast.
Chiapas & Campeche: Bringing the grace, storytelling, and vibrant colors of southern Mexico to life.
Nuevo León & Chihuahua: Energizing the crowd with the bold, fast-paced northern polkas and traditional rhythms.
Jalisco: Closing the gap with the iconic, roaring sounds of the mariachi and the swirling, kaleidoscope skirts of the region's classic folklore.
A Collaborative Triumph
Behind the flawless choreography and pitch-perfect harmonies was a massive network of dedication. The success of “Nuestra Herencia” underscored the deep community spirit that defines VMT.
School administrators extended a heartfelt thank you to the talented student performers, as well as the dedicated instructors and directors who spent countless hours perfecting the repertoire. A special nod of appreciation was also given to Mr. Wolfe’s Technical Theater students, whose masterful lighting design and seamless backstage support elevated the production to a professional standard.
"Your encouragement helps create meaningful opportunities for our students to learn, perform, and grow," school officials shared in a statement, emphasizing the vital role that parental and community support plays in sustaining the fine arts.
Representing VMT with Pride
As the final curtains fell, the overwhelming sentiment was one of immense pride. The faculty, staff, and families of Laredo congratulated all of the student-artists not just for sharing their remarkable talents, but for serving as proud ambassadors of cultural preservation.
Culturas 2026 proved once again that at VMT, heritage isn't just something learned in history books—it is a living, breathing art form passed down to the next generation.
