The Vidal M. Treviño (VMT) School of Communications and Fine Arts is celebrating another major achievement in the visual arts as student Yareni Sandate was named the winner of the LISD Earth Day Poster Challenge. Her award winning artwork stood out for its ability to blend technical skill with a powerful message regarding environmental conservation and the vital importance of protecting our planet.

The LISD Earth Day Poster Challenge encourages students across the district to use their creative voices to advocate for a greener future. Sandate’s piece was recognized by judges for its inspiring imagery, which helped bring community awareness to the global mission of environmental stewardship. By representing VMT in this district wide competition, Sandate has highlighted the school's commitment to using art as a tool for social and environmental change.

The success of the project was supported by the guidance of VMT instructor Mrs. Berrios, who worked closely with students to help them translate complex environmental themes into compelling visual narratives.

Reflecting on the win and the importance of student advocacy through art, Mrs. Berrios emphasized the role of the artist in modern society.

"I am incredibly proud of Yareni for her dedication and the heart she poured into this challenge," said Mrs. Berrios. "At VMT, we encourage our students to look beyond the canvas and think about how their work can impact the world around them. Yareni’s victory is a perfect example of how creativity can be a powerful force for awareness and positive change."

The VMT administration and staff joined in congratulating Sandate for her hard work and for representing the school with such distinction. This latest accolade serves as a testament to the thriving culture of creativity and excellence that defines the VMT art department.

As Earth Day celebrations continue across the district, Sandate’s winning poster will serve as a visual reminder of the beauty of our environment and the collective responsibility we share to preserve it.

Congratulations to Yareni Sandate on this remarkable achievement!
