The historic halls of Casa Ortiz were transformed into a vibrant hub of youth creativity as the Vidal M. Treviño (VMT) School of Communications and Fine Arts hosted its first ever Student Showcase. In a landmark collaboration with Caminarte, the event provided a professional stage for students to display the culmination of months of rigorous practice and dedication across all disciplines.

The showcase was a true multi-sensory experience, featuring a curated gallery of visual arts alongside live performances that spanned the school's diverse curriculum. Students from Music, Dance, Theater, Art, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) came together to highlight the immense talent within the LISD community.

The evening featured a wide array of performances, including:

  • Elegant piano recitals and a melodic Spring Concert preview by the VMT Choir.

  • Powerful theatrical scenes from "¡Bocón!" by Lisa Loomer.

  • Vibrant traditional movements from Folklórico and Flamenco dance groups.

  • An eclectic art exhibit displaying the high caliber of VMT’s visual arts program.

The night reached an energetic peak with a grand finale performance by Mariachi Los Herederos, leaving the audience in high spirits.

The choice of Casa Ortiz provided a sophisticated backdrop, bridging the gap between Laredo’s rich cultural history and its future artistic leaders. School officials extended a special thank you to Mr. Santana, Operations and Creative Director, and Ms. Molano, Director of the Laredo Cultural District, for providing such a prestigious venue within the heart of the community.

The event was further supported by local partners, with H-E-B and Chick-fil-A sponsoring food for the attendees. The entire evening was documented through the lens of VMT’s own talent, with Commercial Photography student Gabriella Ramos capturing the official photographs of the event.

"This event is more than just a performance; it is a true celebration of student expression and the relentless hard work they put in every day," said C. Visarra, an instructor at VMT.

"Seeing our students step out of the classroom and into a professional gallery space like Casa Ortiz is incredibly rewarding. It is where their creativity truly meets the community, and you can see their confidence grow with every note played and every piece of art displayed."

By sharing these talents with the public, VMT continues to fulfill its mission of celebrating the creativity and dedication that make LISD shine. Administration, teachers, and staff expressed their gratitude to everyone who made this milestone possible, promising that this inaugural showcase is only the beginning of many great things to come.

Stay tuned for future events as the VMT Gladiators continue to bring world class art to the Laredo community.
