Vidal M. Treviño School of Communication and Fine Arts proudly celebrates Danika Gutierrez, Jakoby Rodriguez, and Juan Perales for representing the campus at an esports tournament hosted by Texas A&M University–Kingsville in Kingsville. Competing at a university-hosted event provided students with the opportunity to experience a higher level of competition while showcasing their skills in a rapidly growing field.
Danika, Jakoby, and Juan competed both as a team and in individual matches, demonstrating not only technical ability but also communication, strategy, and perseverance. Esports requires quick decision making, collaboration, and adaptability, all of which were evident as they faced competitors from other schools and programs.
Participation in events like this highlights the expanding role of esports in education. Students are able to build valuable skills such as teamwork, problem solving, and digital literacy while exploring potential college and career pathways connected to gaming, technology, and media.
VMT is proud of the dedication, focus, and sportsmanship these students displayed throughout the competition. Their efforts reflect the school’s commitment to providing diverse opportunities that allow students to grow, compete, and represent their campus with pride.
