Tiny sneakers hit the turf and big dreams took flight as Laredo ISDβs youngest stars gathered at Shirley Field for a morning full of fun, discovery, and celebration. The district officially kicked off its Week of the Young Child with the always-anticipated All-Star Kids Dayβa vibrant event that brings together Pre-K, kinder, and first-grade students for hands-on activities, high-energy games, and a sneak peek into the grown-up world of careers.
The All-Star Kids Day isnβt just about playβitβs a celebration of the magic that happens in early childhood classrooms every single day. With colorful stations and high-fives all around, this joyful event marked the beginning of a week-long adventure full of learning, laughter, and creativity across all District elementary campuses.
All LISDβs 20 elementary schools were in attendance and the kick-off began with Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor TreviΓ±o proclaiming April 1st through April 4th, as Week of the Young Child at Laredo ISD. LISD student athletes from Cigarroa, Martin and Nixon High Schools jumped in to help guide their littlest peers through the dayβs activities. Whether it was bowling, dancing, or zooming through a frisbee toss, the field was buzzing with movement and mentorship.
But the fun doesnβt stop there. Throughout the week, students at each campus in grades pre-kinder 3, pre-kinder 4 and kinder participate in hands-on activities, picnics, Science Day, creative art fun, Zumba and other fun and educational activities that allow students to celebrate the beginning of their primary years of education.
βWeek of the Young Child is a time to honor the incredible growth that happens during these early years, and All-Star Kids Day is our way of kicking it off with joy, movement, and community spirit,β said Victoria Camacho, LISD Early Childhood Dean. βSeeing our littlest learners run across the field, laugh with their friends, and try something new reminds us why early education matters so much. These moments arenβt just fun, theyβre formative. They help build social skills, confidence, and a genuine love for learning. It takes all of us, teachers, families, community members, to create these meaningful experiences, and Iβm so proud of what weβre doing together to support our students from the very beginning of their academic journey.β
The event also welcomed community partners like the Laredo Police Department, US Border Patrol, Laredo Fire Department, FedEx Freight, Texas A&M International, Laredo College, Target, Whataburger, Canes, Laredo Animal Shelter, amongst others, giving students a chance to meet real-life role models and explore the many ways they can serve their communities in the future.
According to the Texas Association of the Education of Young Children, the purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. Each year the Early Childhood Department hosts events that not only inspire the students but also encourage their families to be active participants in their childβs lives.
βThis is Laredo ISD Annual All-Star Kids Day event and we are excited to be back on the field with the students. This event allows teachers and students to make positive lasting memories of their time in early childhood,β Camacho said.
