Clarence L. Milton Elementary School

Milton Elementary School student William Umanzor was honored with a Survivor Medal from the Kids Heart Association. William was born at just 28 weeks—far earlier than expected—and with that early arrival came some big challenges. He had a hole in his heart and spent the first two months of his life in the NICU. During that time, William needed multiple machines to constantly monitor his heart and help him survive. He was also given daily doses of caffeine just to keep his heart beating strong. It was a long, tough road, but William never gave up. Thanks to his amazing medical team, the technology that supported him, and his own fighting spirit, William overcame those obstacles. Today, William is thriving. He’s healthy, active, and able to enjoy extracurricular activities—something that once seemed so far away. That’s why the Kids Heart Challenge matters. With your donations, more kids like William get access to the life-saving equipment, research, and care they need to survive and thrive.

LISD is celebrating Texas Public School Week! LISD is opening its 20 elementary and four middle schools for parents and guardians to visit on Wednesday, February 26, from 8:30 a.m., to 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. Report cards will be issued at LISD elementary schools.
